The municipality of Soriano nel Cimino has recently decided to ban all kinds of activities in the "Faggeta Vetusta" [Faggeta Vetusta = Ancient Beech Forest] forest, making specific reference to Bouldering and Climbing too.
This decision has not come as totally unexpected, as before the summer appeared some signs, which generally forbade the "sport activities" inside the Ancient Beech Forest because it's an area of great natural interest, listed as UNESCO World Heritage Site.
But after some meeting with the guys of the Sassisti Tusciaroli Association, it seemed like the overriding approach of the city council was to allow the activities practiced for decades in the Beech Forest.
But instead last Friday the sign shown in the pic appeared...
In addition to all my persona feelings, this measure feels quite unjustified by our impact on the ecosystem. Besides it is a dangerous precedent, which could be taken as a model for other climbing spots in our region [n.d.t. Lazio]!
