Happiness in solitude

Memories, feelings, sensations... Route setting stories in San Vito, on the "Monti Gemelli" (Twin Peaks), between Marche and Abruzzo.

Maurizio Tufoni goes on to tell us his climber's life.

I always needed to take some time of solitude, silence, and peace in my busy life.

I need indeed to recharge my mind, going off into the mountains by myself, even searching for some interesting rock wall.

That's how I started to open up new routes alone, as I did for almost all my routes in San Vito and in my life.

Finding myself alone on a wall, with my thoughts, immersed in a world completely different from the ordinary, makes me feel free, like time has stopped, and magnifies how I feel.

These feelings reached an all-time high (for me) during the solo opening (straight from the bottom) of my two latest routes in San Vito, lasting several days, in which sometimes I abseiled from the routes in the dark.

I remember when I smoked a cigarette under the stars, completely broken and covered by a mix of soil, dust and pebbles, looking at my finished work, and feeling such satisfaction that paid me off for all the accomplished effort.

These special moments will remain indelibly in my memory, and every time I will climb that lines, I'll look back at that happy solitude.
