Ermanno Busetti tells of a route in the St. Michael Hermitage, Cooperando (6c), and of the whole crag, established in the nineties by Alfredo Smargiassi, then abandoned and finally revamped by Gianni De Marchi and friends.

The St.Michael Hermitage is one of the many small crags between Rome and Rieti, staying in a nice and quiet environment.
The route of the pic is "Cooperando", a nice 6c, starting on a dark and solid wall, with spaced holds, and ending on a more eroded rock.
However, we must never drop our guard in the last part, because the end, even if more carved, is very perfidious and can make you rest just one meter before the top.
The other routes of the crag offer many choices in the range from 6a to 6c (on the vertical wall), and from 7a on in the cave on the left. The crag is not popular like the nearby Configni and Roccantica, maybe because the easiest warming up route is only one 5c route.
Recommended for climbing during the mid-seasons and during the hottest winter days. In summer you can climb there only at the dawn...

Absolutely worth a visit is the St. Michael Hermitage, at the end of a comfortable staircase, on the right side of the crag.
It was a place of worship dedicated to Vacunia, a pagan deity of water and woods.
The place was christianized in the IV century AC, when it was associated with the legend of a drake, that was living in the cave, and that was causing devastation in the surrounding land.
In memory of this legend, today we have the route named "Il femore del drago" ("The femur of the drake"), an aesthetic 6c going near a big stalactite.
