Something about Uqbar

Description

Uqbar is a small amphitheater of rock, well visible from the highway Palermo-Trapani, just after Villagrazia di Carini. It has been recently discovered and equipped by Mirko Cangiamila, the latest generation climber of Palermo.

The rock wall is overhanging, and the climbing style is mainly athletic, through tufas, concretions and buckets.

The key point of this crag is undeniably the exposure: it’s windy and North faced, thus good for climbing in summer, even during the hottest days. This is a remarkable feature in Sicily, where the majority of the crags is not good for climbing in summer.

The view of the near airport and on the sea is beautiful. The routes in the central part of the wall are sheltered by the rain.

At now there are only 10 routes, but this number could be slightly increased.

Approach

Take the highway Palermo_Trapani and exit at Villagrazia di Carini. Once at the first crossroad, turn right and go on. Once at the end of the road, in front of the food shop “Impastato”, turn right direction Trapani (SS113). Go on for about 1.8 Km, then take a small uphill road on the left, and follow it up to the parking spots behind the entertainment center "Villa Paradiso” where you can park your car
