The crag of Caronte
All the sectors of the Caronte crag are distributed along the north-east side of Monte Sant’Elia. The Folletti, Flegetonte, San Giovanni sectors are completely in the shade all day, while the Caronte sector is sunny in the morning and goes into the shade around 2 pm. Access to the cliff is very convenient and requires a few minutes on foot, especially for the Folletti sector and the Caronte sector, which is also suitable for children. On the other hand, to reach the Flegetonte sectors and the San Giovanni sector, it is advisable to proceed with caution, in particular when changing between the Flegetonte sectors and the San Giovanni sector in which there is also a handrail for all parts dangerous. The rock is a good white and gray limestone with red limestone tracts due to the presence of iron oxide, while for the Flegetonte and San Giovanni sectors it is mainly gray limestone. All the routes present are sports itineraries, almost all equipped with 10 mm stainless steel fixes. Cellular signal coverage is not guaranteed in all areas.
