The Lago della Duchessa [Lake Duchessa], is one of the most suggestive places in the Apennines. It's located in a glacial valley, surrounded by the Mount Murolungo and by the Mount Morrone.

Of Karst origin (there are no flowing lines to and from it), at 1788 meters above the sea level, it's one of the highest lakes in the Central Apennines, in the Regional Park of Sirente-Velino. 

It can be reached from Cartore (in the province of l'Aquila, in Abruzzo), through the Val di Fua [Fua Valley, n.d.t.] or the Val di Teve [Teve Valley, n.d.t.], by easy and well-marked paths.
