Description
Altro Mondo is the name of the climbing spot inaugurated during the Frasassi Climbing Festival 2018. All the routes have been recently set, and systematically equipped with 12mm stainless steel glue-in bolts. Thus I would say that this crag is almost certifiable with regards the safety of its bolts. Don’t forget the helmet, because some rockfalls are possible from the meadows and the small woods above the cliffs. Pay attention to the belays: not all the routes are equipped with chain and lowering carabiner. The crag is often visited by roe deer and wild boars, so, please, don’t leave food waste such as leftover or fruit peels. As Colle Tordina, l’Altro Mondo is on the slopes of the Murano Mountain, in the Serra San Quirico Municipality. But Colle Tordina is South/ South West faced, whereas is Altro Mondo cliff is mainly South faced. Both are important realities, in a very panoramic and unpolluted location environment.
Approach
The cliff of Altro Mondo is in the mountain range of the Murano Mountain. The mount, even if only 900m high, stands above the Esino Valley. Its Southern face forms the Canyon “Gola della Rossa”, whereas its Northern face is characterized by open grasslands. It’s a panoramic place, with a vast horizon, bounded on the North by the cliff of San Marino, and on the South by the mountain range of Gran Sasso. Coming from the coast or from the inland, take the SS76 road and exit at Serra San Quirico. Then go up to the district Stazione and go uphill to the historical town center of Serra San Quirico. The castle and its “copertelle” often house street boulder events. Don’t miss a visit. From the town of Serra San Quirico go uphill for not more than 2,5km, following the signs to Arcevia. After an uphill stretch, go downhill up to a bridge curving toward a dirty road on the left (SP14, 43.459001, 13.004289). It’s the road going up to Monte Murano. Follow it up to an almost flat stretch (there is a picnic area), then turn left taking the only paved road. Such paved road goes steep uphill to the repeaters of Monte Murano. Pass these repeaters, going first uphill the downhill into the little valley before the top of the mountain. Finally, park your vehicle at a nice farmhouse (an ex-agritourism), located just at the end of the paved road, 6,3 km from the SP14 crossroad.
